STICKING TO YOUR NEW YEAR FITNESS GOALS

As soon as New Year’s rolled around, our Instagram feeds of decadent meals and festive selfies disappeared, and were replaced with the #fitspo and #eatclean images that go hand-in-hand with this time of year.

Sadly, we knew what this meant. Time to say farewell to the delicious indulgences of the Christmas break and join the millions of others jumping on the #NewYearNewMe fitness bandwagon.

We know it can be tough to keep yourself motivated during the winter months, so we've put together our top tips for keeping yourself active this January.

Plan ahead.

Make a weekly plan of your workout routine, choose days and times that you will exercise and don’t let yourself make any excuses. If you find the times don’t work for you, make a new plan, until you find a routine that fits in easily with your week.

Try something new

If you find it hard to keep yourself motivated at the gym, try your hand at a new sport or fitness class. Gyms nationwide have a large and varied selection of classes available, from yoga to boxing (the current celebrity favourite), whatever your fitness goals, there is something out there for everyone.

Sign up to an event and shout about it

One of the best ways to keep yourself motivated is having a goal to work towards. Signing up to a race or event is a great way to do this. Tell your friends and family so you lose the temptation to back out, or even better sign up with a friend and train together.

Revamp your playlist

Spotify has a dedicated ‘Workout’ section with hundreds of playlists that are sure to give you an extra boost. Make sure you check out their running playlists too – they’re programmed to choose music that goes with the tempo of your run.

Workout at home

When the wind is howling and the rain is pouring, there’s probably nothing worse than the idea of going for a run. But if you can resist the urge to chuck on a Netflix box set, put aside 30 mins to an hour and get your blood pumping at home! There are loads of great workouts on YouTube that you can do without gym equipment. Here are 18 great channels to check out
